Tano South holds town hall meeting
The Tano South Municipal Information Services Department under the auspices of the Ministry of Information in collaboration with the Tano South Municipal Assembly has organized Town Hall Meeting in Tano South Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region.

On functions of the Assembly, Hon. Takyi said the Tano South Municipal Assembly is the central institution within the municipality responsible for planning, implementation and management of the development projects and programmes and stressed that if the stakeholders operating in the municipality are involved in the Assembly decision making processes, it will help the Assembly to execute more development projects.

Also, he explained that without planning, Assembly cannot achieve its vision and reiterated that Assembly has developed its Medium Term Development Plan for 2018-2021 and integrated into the National Medium Term Development Plan and if the plan is implemented it will help Assembly to reduce the level of economic, social and political deprivation, mobilize human and financial resources to provide basic social infrastructural services and assist Assembly to effectively use its limited resources to embark development projects in the municipality.

On Assembly’s finances, Mr. Takyi said Assembly obtain income from the four main sources namely; the District Assembly Common fund, District Development Fund, Grant and Internally Generated Fund and stressed that revenue generation is a major challenge to the Assembly and hinted that the situation is unable to make Assembly execute many projects as expected to tackle the problems confronting the residents of the Municipality and informed all and sundry to honour their tax obligations to make Assembly acquire enough money to do more development projects in the Municipality.

To improve Assembly’s revenue mobilization, he said the Assembly shall organize capacity building training for revenue collectors, develop credible and reliable revenue database, and automate revenue collection to ensure every amount collected is counted for, monitoring revenue collectors by task force and construct barriers at vantage points in the Municipality to prevent revenue leakages.

Mr. Imoro T. Ayibani, the Regional Information Officer indicated that Town Hall Meeting adds to the development of Ghana and citizens, adding it deepens participation of Ghana’s democracy, helps Ministry of Information and Information Services Department to disseminate information on government policies and programmes to the general public and gather feedback from citizenry to update national policies, brings governance to the doorstep of citizens through open interactions between Ministers, Parliamentarians, and opinion leaders. He said the corrupt practices being executed by some duty bearers have hampered the progress of Ghana and urged all and sundry to support the President of the Republic of Ghana to fight against corruption to make Ghana to be developed.



Mr. Ayibani said since Information Services Department is responsible for the dissemination of information on government policies and programmes, the chiefs of Ahafo Area must collaborate with the department to make the department sensitize the populace on the need for
the creation of the Ahafo Region and Referendum exercise which is yet to be conducted by the electoral commissioner.

Some heads of departments took participants through various presentations such as the Assembly’s budget preparation, Assembly’s revenue mobilization effort and utilization, free senior high school policy and double track system, planting for food and jobs programme, one district one factory, fall armyworm invasion and health situation in the municipality as well as the Rural Enterprise Programme.



Nana Fosu Gyeabour Akoto II, the Omanhene of Bechem Traditional Council who chaired the programme thanked the Ministry of Information and Tano South Municipal Office of Information Services for organizing the programme to bring governance to the doorstep of the citizenry to make citizens add their voices to the decision making processes of the Assembly and informed all participants to pay their taxes to make government gets money to do more projects in the Municipality.



The programme held at Bechem, the Municipal capital saw dignitaries like the Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi, the MCE for Tano South, Hon. John Dadzi, the Presiding Member for Tano South Municipal Assembly, Mr. K. K. Sencherey, the Municipal coordinating Director for Tano South Assembly, Mr. Imoro Ayibani Tebra, the Brong Ahafo Regional Information Officer, DOII Abraham Tarm Sacky, the Municipal Fire Officer, Mr. Abraham Bansah, the Police Superintendent and Nana Fosu Gyeabour Akoto II the Omanhene of Bechem Traditional Council.
