The Dormaa West District is one of the 254 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 29 of Municipalities and Districts in the Brong Ahafo Region
Dormaa West District with its capital Nkrankwanta was carved from Dormaa and forms part of the new Districts and Municipalities created in the year 2012 and were inaugurated at their various locations simultaneously on the 28th June, 2012.
The Dormaa West District is located in the western part of the Brong Ahafo Region. It has boundaries in the north by the Dormaa Central Municipality, in the east by Asunafo North Municipality, in the west by La Cote d’Ivoire and in the south west by Bia East District. The District capital, Nkrankwanta, located about 125 kilometres away from the regional capital, Sunyani.
The population of the district according to 2010 population and housing census stands at 50,871With 23,970 males 26,901 female
