Birim Central Municipal is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana and forms part of the thirty three 33 Municipalities and Districts in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It was carved out of the former Birim South District Assembly in 2007 under Legislative Instrument (L.I) 1863

It is located in the southwestern corner of the Eastern Region and has a total land area of 122 km. The Administrative Capital of the Municipal is Akim Oda.

The Municipality shares boundaries with Akyemansa District and Kwaebibirem Municipal (to the north), Birim South District (to the west), Asikuma Odoben Brakwa and Agona East Districts (to the south) and West Akim Municipal (to the east).

The population of the Municipality according to 2021 population and housing census stands at 76,302 with 36,474 males and 39,828 females.
