The Assin South District is one of the 261 Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana and forms part of the 22 MMDAs in the Central Region. Nsuaem-Kyekyewere is the Administrative capital of the District.

The District is located on latitude 50 30” N and on longitude 10 2” W. and it covers a total land area of 1100, 89650 km2 (square kilometers) which is about 11.4 percent of the region’s total land area, and the largest, in the Central Region.

Assin South shares boundaries with Twifo  Hemang Lower Denkyira District on the West, Abura Asebu Kwamankese District on the South, Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District and Ajumako Enyan Essiam District on the East and Assin North Municipal on the Northern border.

The population of the District according to 2010 population and housing census stands at 104,244 with 50,936 male and 53,308 female.
