AOWIN: Assembly holds two day capacity training for assembly members
In order for assembly members to be abreast of local government system to enable them carry out their work diligently in their various electoral areas, MMDA are encouraged to build capacity of Assembly members.

It was upon this that Aowin Municipal Assembly took it upon itself to organize a two day capacity training for 37 assembly members in the municipality.

In his welcome address, the Municipal Chief Executive for Aowin, Mr. Samuel Adu-Gyamfi said series of capacity building workshops will be organized for assembly members, zonal councilors and unit committees across the municipality to improve their efficiency and productivity in the work of the assembly. He said, nowadays MMDAs are becoming more complex and exciting with many people showing keen interest in the activities of the assemblies.



“It is therefore incumbent for us to continue to sharpen our skills and upgrade our knowledge in order to be abreast with the contemporary issues in local governance to be able to meet the expectations of the people we represent.”



The MCE assured that he would continue to run an open and transparent administration with a firm commitment to satisfying the needs of our people. We must close our ranks and put aside our individual, ethnic, political and religious differences and put Ghana first in order to achieve the development agenda we jointly set ourselves, he added.



The resource person who is also a local government expert, and from the Institute of Local Government Studies, Mr. Frederick Agyarko Oduro said at end of the training, he will take the participants through historic development of local government in Ghana, local framework for local governance in Ghana, institutional arrangements for local government in Ghana, the office, departments and staff of the assembly, primary actors of the assembly, the committee system of the assembly, standing orders of the assembly, duties and Responsibilities of Assembly members, code of conduct and etiquette for assembly members, among others.
