In this regard, the Member of Parliament for Wenchi and Minister for Planning in collaboration with the Municipal Assembly have presented livelihood support items to the beneficiaries.

The distribution of the items formed the Assembly/government's decision and the MP's initiative to procure items for Persons with Disabilities to offer them livelihoods instead of the usual disbursement practice where cash was given them for consumption.

The items included Deep Freezers, Water Pumping Machines, Fufu Mashing Machines, welding machines, Sewing Machines, Wheel Chairs, amongst others, for 52 beneficiaries this year. The beneficiaries were given the opportunity to decide and present their own choice of items personally needed.

In his Address, the Municipal Chief Executive Dr Prince Kwakye Afriyie indicated that 366 persons living with disability in the Municipality have been provided with livelihood empowerment support since 2017 when the NPP government assumed office.

He said the innovation and creativity of the NPP government in governance to think outside the box for the economic development of the citizenry is indisputable and commendable.

The MCE called on the people to grant four more years to the MP Prof Gyan-Baffour and the NPP to do more to improve their lives.

Presenting the items to the beneficiaries, the Member of Parliament and Minister for Planning Professor George Gyan-Baffour expressed the commitment and the untiring effort of the Nana Addo - Bawumiah led the government to empower the underprivileged by providing equal opportunities and livelihoods in many forms to make them economically independent and more responsive to home affairs as breadwinners of their families.

The MP discouraged and urged persons with disability to desist from the practice of begging for arms on the street.

The Professor was hopeful that the long-standing dream of the government to get rid of Arm beggers on the street would be achieved and given the needed decency.

The Municipal Officer for the Department of Social Welfare & Community Development (DSW/CD) Abdulai Jimba said his outfit would continue to facilitate the needed support for all vulnerable groups in society.

He emphasized the call for the public to accept and support Persons with Disability to turn their sorrows to joy.
