MMDCEs urged to spearhead fight against climate change Sub-Saharan Africa
President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Mr Bismark Nkum has urged all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to spearhead the fight against climate change in Ghana and other sub-Saharan Africa.

He said, climate change was gradually becoming a threat to national development and was therefore the need to adopt a bottom-up approach to help the fight against this global canker.

Mr Nkum said this when speaking in an exclusive interview with Ghanadistricts.com, after a three days African Climate Chance Summit at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) last week. The three days summit, which brought together some internationally recognized climate and development bodies and personalities, was under the theme: “Stepping up Local Climate Action in Africa.”

The Summit was aimed at mobilizing local governments, businesses, non-governmental organizations, trade unions, scientists, representatives from agricultural, youth, women and indigenous organizations and citizens to join the fight against climate change in the world especially sub-Saharan Africa.

The summit was also aimed at building the capacity of African mayors, planners and Agric directors on how to access donor funds for the fight against climate change.

He to challenge all especially local governments to support the fight since the continent (Africa) was already suffering the consequences of climate change.

He further seize the opportunity to commend Climate Chance for availing themselves to help champion climate issues in Africa and the world as a whole.
