Cases of incest is in the rise-police cries out

The crime of having sexual intercourse with a parent, child, sibling, or grandchild is on the rise in the Upper Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region.

The worst of this situation is the father - daughter sexual relationship which usually involves girls under 16 years.

The District Police Commander, Superintendent Jeremiah Alale made this known at a Town Hall Meeting at Asesewa.

The commander pledged his outfit's commitment to put a stop to this unfortunate development by arresting and prosecuting anyone found culpable at the law court.

He warned those who take advantage of the vulnerability of others and sexually abuse them especially children under 16 years to desist from it because the police would not accept any out of court settlement when arrested.

Superintendent Alale said the general security situation in the district is encouraging even though there has been an increase in the reported cases of people inflicting cutlass wounds and butchering others in recent times.

The Police Commander advised that people should not take the law into their own hands and cause harm to others when they feel cheated in any way but go to the police for amicable redress.

On his part, the District Physical Planning Officer, Samuel Ansong said everyone has the right to own a land but do not determine the use of the land.

He explained that before any development is made on any plot of land there should be a permit from the local assembly sanctioning it.

This, among other reasons, is to ensure proper layout of the town and construction of a structure to proceed on condition of compliance with its building code.

Mr. Ansong said his office is currently preparing a district layout and entreated all those who have land to submit their site plans to complete the planning scheme.

He also urged traditional leaders and all other opinion leaders to constantly remind their people to contact the assembly for technical direction on any development they plan doing on their land.

Both the District Chief Executive, Joe Sam and the Member of Parliament for the area, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko added their voice to the call for all hands to be on deck to give the district a facelift by having a proper layout.

The town hall meeting organized by the Asesewa Area Council was to take community members' views on public issues and also offer the officials of the District Assembly for explanation and education.
