NJSMA Holds second ordinary meeting
The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly has held its 2nd Ordinary Meeting of the 1st Session of the Second Assembly on Wednesday, 8th September, 2021; to deliberate and approve on the review budgets, development projects and other recommendations from the executive meeting and other sub-committee meetings of the Assembly.

The meeting was in respect to the Local Government Act of Ghana which mandates all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to organize at least four Assembly Meetings within a year.

Speaking at the event, the MCE, Appaw-Gyasi in his sessional address expounded by emphasizing some important functions made so far by the management of the Assembly.

COVID-19 PANDEMIC

On the covid-19, the MCE said the pandemic has affected almost all the economy of the world, thus, brining all business to their knees which has resulted to an increase in unemployment rate in every country.

He again made mention of the arrival of the Moderna vaccines in the country of which the government received One point two (1.2) million from the United States of America.

“We are optimistic that our country will return to her normal state but it is still been observed that people are reluctant in going for the jab because of some falsehood spread about the vaccines” he said.

He was quick to advise all the Assembly members to step out and encourage their community members to avail themselves for the vaccine and protect their family from the deadly virus.


Touching on the revenue mobilization, Mr. Appaw-Gyasi made it known to the Assembly that, there has been a decline in the revenue generation in the Assembly due to the pandemic but managers of the Assembly are strategizing to improve in the revenue collection.

He said, there has been collaboration between the Assembly and the Evaluation board to undertake a thorough property evaluation exercise to ascertain the actual property rate that must be paid to the Assembly which will subsequently improve the Assembly’s revenue generation.

To improve the socio-economic development in the municipality, Mr. Appaw-Gyasi declared the Assembly has embarked on community engagement in the various Electoral Areas of the Municipality to seek information or issues confronting the inhabitants.

He said all concerns gathered from the community engagements have been captured in the MTDP for implementation.


ONGOING PROJECTS

The MCE did mention of some ongoing projects which most of them are in its completion stage; Office complex, Nsukwao Drainage Basin project, Redevelopment of Jackson Park, Rehabilitation, Construction of Slaughter House / Abattoir, Reconstruction of Mangoase Court, among others.

HEALTH ISSUES

Dr. Ekow Kaitoo, Municipal Health director addressed the house by providing updates on the Corana Virus within the New Juaben South Municipality, he said, New Juaben South has recorded five thousand eight hundred and eight (5,808) cases since May 2020 to date, 1000 positive and 58 death.

On the vaccination, Dr. Ekow Kaitoo said over 4000 people have received their first dose but the second dose is inadequate to cover the people who have taken the first dose.

He again called for all to partake in the vaccination process since the Corana Virus is real.
