Mawanniha-Donkoto Community to benefit from new mining scheme
The communities of Donkoto and Mmawaniha were set agog as Government officials from the Minerals Commission, Chiefs and some top politicians and other top brass entrepreneurs stormed their town to commission a community mining scheme.

Nana Kofi Darko the Krontihene, who represented Nkawiehene thanked the Government for extending job creation to these communities. He employed the youth to be tactical and brace themselves for the jobs that will be created by the mining scheme.

Mr. Isaac Kofi Marfo, the District Chief Executive of the area, charged the miners and the natives of the communities to live in harmony for the betterment of the district.

He added that the assembly will do everything possible to ensure that the community gets what is due them.


The Member of Parliament for the constituency, Isaac Kwame Asiamah pleaded with the miners and all stakeholders to uphold ‘responsible mining’.

“Mr. Minister, I pray for your office to ensure responsible community mining as that is the sure way for sustainable development”.

He urged the miners to do everything humanly possible to reclaim and plant trees after digging to enrich the degraded lands again.

The MP for Tarkwa Nsuaem, Mr Mireku Duker, who doubles as the deputy minister for lands also noted that, the 2 concessions which covers an area of 40 acres can create an estimated 3000 direct jobs and 500 indirect jobs for the natives.


He advised the workers to eschew fighting and any other rioting which can activate the closure of the site in lawful terms.

He further noted that, the World Bank is sponsoring the education of District Mining Committees on land reclamation, tree planting and afforestation for sustainability and safety within the mining enclaves across the country.

“In addition, the Nananom, government has taken note of the way Changfan operators have destroyed all water bodies. For that reason, 300 water guards are being employed to man these River bodies who shall be equipped with speedboats to undertake their duties”, he noted.


He asked for tolerance and vigilance for a healthy business environment.

Mr. Benjamin Kufour, the site manager thanked the delegation for that continuous support. He pledged his outright support and also to abide by the rules of engagement.
