This thus marks a formal declaration of his intention to contest the Bongo Constituency Parliamentary Primaries on the ticket of the NPP gearing up towards the 2020 general elections, to possibly unseat the current occupant of the seat, the opposition National Democratic Congress.

The NPP’s Elections Committee Chairman and an elder of the party in the Upper East region, Mr. Robert Adjene in the company of an Elections and Research Officer, Mr. Solomon Azure and other executives, received Mr. Ayinbisa’s forms by late afternoon on August 1, 2019. They spent some time to comb through the forms and eventually signed them in as a true representation of all details required for entry into the race as well as the stipulated fees as required.

The executives wished Mr. Ayinbisa well in his endeavours and stated that, he was the first to file even though another person whose name our reporter couldn’t get as of press time, had also picked forms. They added that come this Saturday, the window will close for the filing of nomination forms and that only at such a time that, they can tell how many people were vying to represent the NPP in the constituency. They further said when a time is set for the vetting, all aspirants will also be duly notified.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Aspirant on behalf of his team, thanked the executives for making time meet and to take delivery of his forms. He pledged to be decent in his language and demeanor throughout the campaign period.

Later after walking through the principal streets of Bongo in the company of a large crowd of supporters, Hon. Ayinbisa addressed the media and presented himself as the most-viable candidate that could secure the Bongo seat for his party and also woo majority to vote for the NPP’s Presidential candidate. He revealed that over the years, his constituents had been calling on him to contest the seat but that he always turned down their calls in the view that, it was the time for some other stakeholders.

Hon. Ayinbisa however disclosed that “since the start of multiparty democracy in our country, the New Patriotic Party has never been able to annex the seat in this constituency, we have tried several people, we have tried women, we have tried youth and none of them has been able to click to the top”. He thus stated that, he had made the decision this time round, based on his track record as DCE for the area having championed massive development infrastructure in various sectors across the district coupled with his contributions to the development of the NPP family.

According to him, previous Members of Parliament [MP] for the constituency had let the area down but even as DCE, he had already shown enough readiness and zeal which has caused tremendous development in the constituency’s water coverage, health, education, agriculture, roads and other sectors adding that, if he eventually got the nod as MP, he would be effectively placed to lobby and make more contacts for the enhancement of life-changing projects and interventions in the constituency. He described himself as a “grassroots man” who had been living in the area for decades and connects well with the people on daily basis and therefore, understands their needs and problems better than any competitor.

Asked whether he feared any internal competition that could flop his chances of winning the primaries, Mr. Ayinbisa replied that, it was only himself and one Madam Diana, who had picked forms but expressed high confidence that, he would emerge victor by the end of the race. He stated that in the unlikely event that he lost, he would readily support a colleague who gets the nod but equally called on any loser to also join forces with him to secure election victory for the NPP come 2020.
