Asutifi North: CDD-Ghana assesses skills of PWDs
The Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) and the Asutifi North District Assembly of the Ahafo Region, as part of measures has assessed skills needs for the youth, women and person’s with disability.

Kenyasi No.1, Kenyasi No.2 and Ntotroso are the three Zonal Council’s captured for the project.

 

The project plans to train 45 youth and also support them with seed capital after their training.

 

Beads making, kente weaving, smock weaving, batik tie and dye making, welding and fabrication, snail rearing and grass cutter rearing were the selected entrepreneurial skills. Thereafter, a surveyor was conducted from all the communities from the three Zonal Council to ascertain the preferred sets of skills which the youth will be interested to learn if they are given the required support.

 

The validation meeting forms part of the initial processes to finalizeselection of the skills set and focus of the Project; “Building Local Entrepreneurial Skills to Support the Rural Poor for Sustainable Economic Self Reliance”.

 

Three Chiefs from the Traditional Council represented each Zonal Council and also six youth leaders represented each Zonal Council.

 

Mr. Newton Norviewu, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer (CDD), took us through the survey which was conducted.

 



Finally, the representatives of the Zonal Council arrived at an agreed skills they want.

 

Kenyasi No.1 choose: soaps and detergent, welding and fabrication, grass cutter rearing and beads making.

 

Kenyasi No.2 choose: welding and fabrication, soaps and detergent making, batik tie and dye making and beads making.

Ntotroso choose: soaps and detergent, welding and fabrication, 3D epozy (floor tiles) and kente weaving.

 

According to Nana Kwabena Aborampah Mensah, Senior Programs Officer/Team Leader (CDD-Ghana), his outfit was committed to give entrepreneurial skills to more youth in the next five years and above. The Chiefs also agreed to give them the required land for the project.

 

The District Coordinating Director (DCD), Mr. Samuel Badu-Baiden, Business Advisory Centre (BAC) Officer, Mr. Kwasi Abayie Acheampong, District Planning (DPO), Mr. AtaEra A. James and some Heads of Department were also part of the meeting.
