The establishment of the CIC forms part of GIFEC’s Cyber labs Programme which is geared towards providing underserved communities and institutions with ICT equipment.

30 new CICs have been established across the country to increase access to ICT equipment and services to underserved communities.

The Centers function as information hubs, providing connectivity to private businesses, educational institutions and individuals in rural communities and have been designated to serve as a hub for various ICT Capacity Building Programs of GIFEC.

In all, about 3,169 citizens trained in Basic and Intermediary ICT Courses.

Climax of the 3rd cohort of training for 3,169 citizens under the Digital Transformation Centers (DTC) Programme has been held in the Bekwai Municipality in the Ashanti Region.

The DTC is implemented by GIFEC, in partnership with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and Cisco.

This programme also forms part of a broader goal of building an inclusive digital society where lack of digital skills should not be a barrier to participation in the digital economy and aims at building a digitally literate citizenry to boost their ICT capabilities to enable them to participate meaningfully in the knowledge society of today.

The three-year programme is geared at training 14,000 citizens, spanning among students, teachers, women and girls, youth, and the marginalized in communities such as head porters, Persons with Disabilities, school dropouts and school leavers in Cisco-certified courses by the end of 2023.

It is designed to develop digital skills, mainly at the basic and intermediate levels particularly in underserved communities, and features courses like Introduction to Cyber security, Cyber security Essentials, Introduction to IoT, Python, C++ and Entrepreneurship.

The programme, which has entered its second year, has trained over 6,000 citizens in Cisco Get Connected, Entrepreneurship and Introduction to IoT, which will cushion them to be part of our knowledge society.

The current and 3rd cohort of the program has trained 3,169 persons, from August 15 to 31, across all 16 regions of the country, with 70% being female and Persons with Disabilities.
