Kintampo North holds input fair

The Kintampo North Municipality in collaboration with Hortifresh Fruits and Vegetables West Africa has organized a one-day input fair at the four court of the Municipal Agric Office in the Municipality.

This fair was aimed at building the capacity of framers (Mango Framers Associations) within the Kintampo North and South districts in the sector of production in Fruits and Vegetables.

The fair was also to foster collaboration in the sector among farmers and other stakeholder and to interact and learn from one another in Horticuture business opportunities in the country.

Mr. Simon Yambor, Municipal Agric Director in his address, thanked organizers of the programme for working tirelessly in making the programme a success.

He expressed gratitude to the Netherlands government for coming to empowered businesses especially in the agriculture sector, to help increase revenue and further reduce poverty cycle in the area.

He said: “Due to the friendly environment of Kintampo. Framing activities in the country especially mango and cashew production, processing, marketing, and other staple food crops are cultivated with good yield in this part of the country”.

He however noted that, the industry is faced with some constraints such as; pest and diseases, lack of access to skilled labour, low level of technical know-how of the farmers, lack of access to credit, lack of simple and affordable tools and equipment’s, low level of trust between farmers and processors among others.

He added that it was for this reason that the fair was being organized with the aim of boosting the horticultural production and export in Ghana.

On her part, the program manager, Mrs. Sheila Assieg Yebiah in her speech briefed participants on the background of Hortifresh programe which she says deal with the production of fruits and vegetables in West Africa which Ghana is a beneficiaries.

She added that, Hortifresh helps framers in different activities/ways such as in production, controlling of pests and diseases, gives technical support to framers, financial support, support to input dealers among others.
