Tarkwa MCE relieved from office

President Akufo-Addo has by virtue of Article 243(3)(b) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20 (3) (b) the Local Governance Act, Act 936 terminated the appointment of Gilbert Ken Asmah, Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa with immediate effect.

A letter dated 12th May 2020 and signed by the Local Government Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama read: “By virtue of Article 243(3)(b) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana and Section 20 (3) (b) the Local Governance Act, Act 936. His Excellency the President has revoked your appointment as Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly with immediate effect.”

Former Presiding Member for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, Mr Benjamin Kessie has been nominated to take over from Mr Asmah.

Mr Kessie is however, expected to receive two-thirds majority of votes from Assembly to confirm his position.
