Offinso M: Assembly Members end capacity building workshop
The Offinso Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region has organized a capacity building workshop for its newly sworn- in Assembly Members.

The workshop was to familiarize them on the Local Governance Act (Act936) and the Model Standing Orders for metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies.

Topics included the composition of Act and the assembly, benefits of the Act and its challenges, functions of District Chief Executive (DCE) and the Presiding Member (PM) and assembly members as well as the functional relationship between the DCE and assembly members.

Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Mr. Solomon Kesseh in his remarks, said the time had come for the District Assemblies to build capacity of its members to understand the Standing Orders of the assemblies to enrich debates.

In his view, it was imperative that the assembly members were educated on the rules and regulations of the assemblies.

Mr. Kesseh also implored the assembly members to study the Model Standing Orders to familiarize themselves with the proceedings of the assembly.

“I implore you all to make good use of the Acts and the Sections in the Model Standing Orders to enable you to express yourselves freely and confidently during assembly meetings,” he said.

The MCE also admonished assembly members to work towards addressing the challenges facing their communities to bring development to their respective electoral areas.
