Techiman North records zero maternal death for 2017

The Techiman North District in the Brong Ahafo Region, last year, 2017 to mid-year 2018 recorded Zero maternal death as a result of prudent measures and strategies put in place by the District Assembly and the District Health Management Team (DHMT).

Mr. Peter Mensah, the District Chief Executive for Techiman North made this known in his address during a Town Hall Meeting programme held at Tuobodom to explain Government Policies and programmes to the people in the District.

The DCE noted that more health facilities were being constructed to provide the health needs of people. He said two CHPS Compounds funded by DACF were under construction with 40% work done, at Krobo and Nyansuaka to meet the heath needs of the people in area.

Mr. Stephen Nyarko-Ameyaw, the District Health Director for Techiman North noted that in 2017, a total of 799 supervised deliveries were carried out, and no death was recorded have also been carried out January – June (mid-year) 2018 and no martial death have been recorded.

The District Health Director attributed the success to those supervision, effective education and early referral system. Other strategies include routing activities to provide anti-malaria drugs (PT) to pregnancy women and anti-tetanus injection. He added that the DHMT also educate pregnant women on diet and provide them with motivate and iron to improve on their hemoglobin levels.

The Techiman North District Health Directorate by what they have attained is working hard to gradually achieve one of United Nations Population (UNPFA) vision where ‘every childbirth is safe’ through Safe motherhood (Antenatal care, safe delivery & postnatal care).

To actually achieve this, the District Health Director have advised pregnant or expectant mothers to visit/attend health facilities regularly seek medical attention. He also called on relatives of pregnant or expectant mothers to ensure that their pregnant mothers attend to hospitals for their health needs.

The town hall programme was organized by the Ministry of Information (MOI) and the Information Services Department (ISD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

Regional Information Officer, Mr. Imoro Ayibani Tebra explained that Town hall meeting is one of the tools used to deepen and ensure participatory democracy which an element of good governance. Mr. Imoro noted that Stakeholder consultation, participation, collective decision making and accountability are the main pillars on which decentralization thrives.

He added government believes in an all-inclusive governance system and is using the Town Hall Meetings as a central part of its governance machinery to offer accountability and transparency to the people.

He called on the people to actively participate in the discussion devoid of politics and chieftaincy issues.
