1,200 women undergo SEHP training
About 1,200 women in the Northern Region have received training in quality Shea Nut Picking and Preservation as part of the Shea Empowerment Initiative which is funded by the Second Lady of the Republic, Mrs Samira Bawumia.

The SEHP initiative is aimed at empowering women and the youth in Ghana by assisting them with the requisite tools, skills and opportunities to thrive and also to facilitate self-sufficiency in women to help break the cycle of poverty.

The project is in partnership with Ghana EXIM Bank (GEXIM), under its Grassroots Initiative Development (GRID) project.


Mr. Bright Evans Darko, Head of Business Development and Projects at EXIM Bank, Ghana (GEXIM), in his speech, commended the second Lady Samira Bawumia for putting together this project to provide sustainable livelihood support for beneficiary women in the shea value chain industry.

He stated that GEXIM would continue to support local initiatives that increase cross border trade and Ghana’s foreign direct investment.


Each trainee received a certificate of participation, protective gears, including; hand gloves, headlamps and wellington boots, as well as head pans to contain the gathered nuts.


The second phase of the project will include the training of four hundred (400) shea processors and the commissioning of four (4) Shea processing factories.


The women were drawn from the Wa in the Upper West Region, Gushiegu in the Northern, West Mamprusi in North East and Kassena Nankana, Upper East Regions, respectively.
