Upper West Akim Assembly donates PPEs to support front line workers
Mr. Eugene Sackey, District Chief Executive for Upper West Akim has urged people living in the district to strictly comply with social distancing, usage of face masks and other precautionary protocols to combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Let us consider that, there may be infected persons within our neighborhoods who are likely infecting others and so our daily guiding principles to protect ourselves must be paramount when having engagement with anybody”

“We must not arrogantly consider ourselves smarter but stay safe”, he said.

Mr. Sackey made the call when he presented Personal Protection Equipments (PPEs) to the District Directorate of Health Service in to help protect frontline workers to execute their duties safely.

“Each and every ones life matters, let us keep staying safe and to routinely wear facemasks as part of our clothing when stepping out of our homes”, he added.

The items donated included, Veronica buckets, hand sanitizers, wellington boots, personal protective overalls, disposable hand gloves and liquid soaps.

Others are face masks, infrared thermometers, tissue papers and COVID-19 educational materials.

This is the third time the District Assembly has under a certificate of urgency donated similar items to the health directorate to help in the fight against the pandemic.

Dr. Fredrick Duah, Upper West Akim District Director of Health who received the items expressed appreciation to the Assembly for its continuous support and assured all that the items will judiciously be used for the purpose intended.

Later in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Aaron Otoo, District Coordinating Director said the Assembly had put in place several interventions to stem the spread of the pandemic, particularly in the markets.

He mentioned, disinfection of the markets done some weeks ago, relocation of half of the traders to a school park to ease congestion in the Markets and intensification of education on the pandemic as some of them.

Mr Otoo said more traders will be relocated to other places if they failed to observe the social distancing protocol.

He said “We have also resolved to set blocks at the entry points into the market to ensure that all traders who operate in the market as well as those who patronize their services wear face masks”.
