Berekum West Health Directorate begins Covid-19 Vaccination campaign

As part of efforts to reduce vaccine hesitancy to achieve herd immunity against covid-19, the Berekum West District Health Directorate (BWDHD) has begun an intensive COVID-19 vaccination campaign drive aiming to immunize over 3000 people in 5days throughout the district.

According to Ms. Agnes Asiedu, the District Health Director, the move is to compliment the government’s commitment to protect the populace against the Corona Virus through mass immunisation.

“Since the emergence of Covid-19, the health directorate through its health promotion and disease surveillance unit has been conducting awareness creation sessions in the district to spread accurate information and debunk vaccine misconceptions.” She said.

She said that the benefits of taking the vaccines cannot be overemphasized and encourage everyone to get vaccinated. Again, she urged fully vaccinated Ghanaians to go for the booster dose. “The vaccines are safe, effective and free.

They reduce COVID-19 disease, its severity and prevent hospitalization and deaths so please get vaccinated”, she said.

Touching on the strategies for the exercise, Ms. Asiedu said that, COVID-19 vaccines will be available at health centers and vaccination posts in every neighbourhood from Wednesday 2nd – Sunday, 6th Feb. 2022 to vaccinate all eligible persons aged 15 years and above. She disclosed that pregnant women are now eligible to receive Moderna or Pfizer vaccines.

She advised that people continue to wear face masks, frequently wash hands with soap under running water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers and adhere to physical distancing.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the District Health Directorate has helped prevent the spread of the disease by encouraging behaviours to prevent transmission, increasing disease surveillance and testing, and securing critical supplies and personal protective equipment in health facilities. So far more than 27,000 people have been vaccinated throughout the district

The vaccination campaign drive is implemented in partnership with the Information Services Department.
