GNPC commissions 6-unit classroom block at Kwatape

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has commissioned a new 6-unit classroom block for Kwatape D.A Primary School in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region.

Kwatape, a community whose dire school infrastructure situation gained nationwide attention after a viral video showed pupils taking lessons in a makeshift structure under a tree with no furniture, now has an opportunity to experience standard classroom teaching and learning after GNPC’s intervention.

According to the DCE of Kpandai district, Mr Emmanuel Kofi Atta Tatablata, the school block, which comes with furniture and other ancillary facilities, brings to an end a situation where many children have to trek to far distances to access education.

“Contributing to the quality of education of our children is an important responsibility for all of us and we are grateful to GNPC for leading in this charge,” he said.

The Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, Dominic Eduah (PhD), said the report from the Corporation’s needs assessment done in the area revealed the urgency in the need to address the problem.

He expressed the hope that the facility will be managed well to serve the community for a long time.
