Former President Kufour adjudged 2019 District Best Farmer

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JAK Farms at Dabaa has emerged the District Best Farmer in the Atwima Nwabiagya North of the Ashanti Region at Dabaa, the hometown of the former President.

Mr. Kufuor was declared as the District Best Farmer for 2019, after a successful inspection from the Ministry of Food and Agricultural (MOFA Department), it was established that Former President Kufour owns 300 sheep, 100 cattle, over 200 acres of cocoa, 5 acres of plantation farm and several others which has created a numerous jobs for the youth within the District to earn a better living.

The Former President who was expected to receive the award package was represented by Oheneba Owusu Afriyie IV, (Otumfour Apagyahene) to receive the award on his behalf due to his busy scheduled.

He received the citation as well as other prizes, including knapsack spraying machine, tricycle (Aboboyaa), cutlasses and Wellington boot.

The other 19 farmers listed for awards were also honoured and took home with several items such a bicycle, television, fridges, cutlasses, knapsack spraying machine and among others.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya North District Rebecca Yeboah in her key address, used the opportunity to highlight government various policies and interventions since the NPP assumed power in 2017.

These include Planting for food and jobs, planting for export and Rural Development (PERD), free distribution of cocoa seedling to farmers, the one-district, one-factory(1D1F), Afforestation, one district, one warehouse, recruitment of adding extension officers, provision of motorbikes to agric extension officers so as to revamp the Agric Sector.

On his part, Mr. Benito Owusu Bio, the lawmaker for Atwima Nwabiagya North Constituency and Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, said the Government would continue to prioritize agricultural development to achieve food sufficiency.

He, therefore, advised the youth to take advantage of the government flagships programmes such as planting for food and jobs Programme (PFJP) and One-District Factory (1D1F) initiatives to engage themselves in farming activities to earn a living, since farming is a major business these days.
