AFRAM PS: Tunoga to get cassava processing factory - DCE discloses
The District Chief Executive for Afram Plains South, Ofori George has revealed that the Afram Plains South District is set to get a cassava processing factory as part of the ‘One District, One Factory’ flagship program being implemented by the government.

In response to a question from a journalist, Captain Adabugar on the progress of work on the IDIF in the district at a meet the press series, he said over 2,000 applicants are to be selected to own and manage the factory.

According to him, the delay in the implementation of the program in the district is as a result of the lack of investors.

“Under the 1d1f, every district was tasked to send a proposal to the central government to sell to prospective investors. Because of where we are, we put forward a cassava processing factory to process starch and many other products where the warehouse will be at Tunoga close to Agyata.

On electricity extension, he said his administration has extended electricity to some communities in the district and that, efforts are being made to connect 50 communities, including Boakyekrom, Samankwa, Kwame Gyamena among others which are yet to be commissioned.

Some farmers in the district he said were supported with subsidized agric inputs from 2017 to 2019 under the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) initiative, whilst 200,000 cashew seedlings have been distributed to farmers alongside with capacity building under government’s Planting for Export and Rural Development programme.



SOCIAL INTERVENTIONS
As part of efforts to reduce graduate and youth unemployment, he disclosed that the National Builders Corps (NABCO) has since its inception in 2018, recruited a total of 45 graduates. The Youth Employment Agency, its twin sister from available records, has recruited young people under its various modules from 2017 to 2019.

On the implementation of the Free SHS program in the district, he said so far, a total of 373 students have been admitted due to some challenges. The implementation of the LEAP programme has also been improved, while some schools also have been covered under the School Feeding Programme from 2016/2017 academic year to 2018/2019 academic year.

PROJECTS
The assembly has successfully completed a wide range of projects including; 6-unit classroom block at Atonsu, mechanize borehole at Obomeng, Praprabebida health center, 3-unit classroom block at Kwasi Fanti among others.

He said some projects are still ongoing like Kwasi Addae KG block, Dunkro CHIPS center, semi-detached staff bungalow at Tease, Maame Krobo 6-unit classroom block for Presby Primary among others. He said, “It is my dream to complete all so that we don't get any abandoned project in the area".



Other areas Mr. Ofori comment on included security, financial performance, government flagship programs, youth development program and social intervention programs.

Under the One-million dollars per constituency fund, the district has benefited from the construction of boreholes with solar facility at Maame Krobo, Tease and one mechanized borehole at Agyata.

The common agenda of the district assembly in his view is to eradicate poverty, diseases and hunger thereby improving their standard of living.
