Wiamoase Salvation Army Hospital to get new maternity block

A 30-bed ultramodern maternity block is to be constructed at the Salvation Army Hospital at Wiamoase to support maternal and child health care delivery in the community.

The new block, to be completed in November this year, would have a theatre, offices for doctors, antenatal and post-natal wards, intensive care unit (ICU) and nurses room. Other facilities would include an emergency room, records office, blood bank, kitchen and reception.

Mr. Robert Mensah, the Sekyere South District Health Director, speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony for work to commence, said the new facility would enable the hospital to run full maternal services for its clients.

The hospital records more than 60 births every month.

Mr. Mensah said the new facility would help offer space to nurses, doctors and pregnant women and generally help to improve health care delivery. He pledged the commitment of health workers in the district to do their best to improve care and called for support from all to achieve the goal.

Mr. Alex Gyedu, the Project Coordinator at the Office of Chief of Staff at the Presidency, said the government was poised to support health facilities to render quality services to Ghanaians.

He said the government was carrying out the project in collaboration with the District Assembly.

“The contractor would live in the community and shall work with some of the youth therefore, I plead with the youth not to steal the building materials for sale. Be reminded that if you are caught stealing or buying stolen materials, the law permits us to arrest both seller and buyer,” he said in Twi.

Major Stephen Boadu, the administrator of the Hospital, commended the government for the initiative and appealed for assistance in the construction of a more spacious children’s ward to ease congestion in the existing one.

“Our children’s ward is small and therefore we plead with you to help us put up a huge ultra-modern children’s ward to cater for the needs of children. We also plead with you for an extra ambulance to complement the one we have especially during multiple emergencies”, he requested.

Chief of Wiamoase, Nana Boakye Yiadom, expressed his gratitude to government and all other stakeholders for helping Salvation Army hospital with the maternity ward.
