Stop open defecation- DCE warns residents

The District Chief Executive for Sekyere South in the Ashanti Region, Catherine Reckling has appealed to residents of Agona and its environs to desist from indiscriminate open defecation which has shown its ugly face in the area in order not to cause any outbreak of various diseases in the District.

This came to light at a town hall meeting organized by the Ministry of Information in collaboration with the Sekyere South District Assembly at Agona, the capital as a means of bringing accountability and governance to the door-step of the people.

The meeting also aimed at presenting government policies and programmes at both national and district levels and to give the constituents the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution on issues of development as a means of strengthening democracy and decentralization in the area.

The programme, the first of its kind in the District attracted people from all walks of life with recorded attendance of over five hundred participants.

The participants include, Regional Director of the information services department (ISD), Nana Akrasi Sarpong, the clergy, traditional authorities, Assembly members, Heads of department, transport unions, the physically challenge, Media, civil society, Muslims and among others.

DCE in her key note address, touched on some government policies and programmes which include, sanitation, health, One District- One Factory, Free education, revenue mobilization, Naco, restored of teacher trainee and nurses allowance, Leap and others.

She said, there are more of such developments in the pipeline and will soon be rolled out.

On his part, the chief of Agona pipoa who was the chair person for the occasion Nana Agyapah Ameyaw ll, commended the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by Nana Adoo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the DCE for the introduction of this town hall meeting policy.

This he said, will help showcase government performance and achievement within the various District Assemblies.
