At a colorful durbar, all stakeholders including farmers Assembly members, Heads of Departments, Nananom, Security, Media, were all present to grace this annual event.

The Municipal Director of Agric, Mr. Simon Yambor in his address, thanked all for coming, most especially stakeholders in the Agric sector. He stated that, “it is a collaboration network that integrates sustainable food production, processing, distribution, consumption, and waste management” in order to enhance the environmental, economic, and social health of a particular area”. He said.

He added that,” agriculture has become the heart of our economy which is key in reducing rural poverty and it enhances development in our Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) most especially the internally generated funds and country as a whole”.

He also observed that, in order to contribute to consolidate food system in our country, a holistic approach has to be taken to address some threats to our food security in our communities such as; the distraction of farms and farm produce by Fulani herdsmen, rampant bushfires destroying farms and properties, and charcoal production, especially in the Kintampo Municipality.

He outlined some achievements in the year under review such as; support government flagship programmers, the department given out over 38, 000 mango and 20,000 Coconut seeding to farmers with the municipality, they also holding a workshop on business partnership and marked linkage, and the Bono East Region also organized a mini Regional Trade Fair to exhibit all activities in the Agric sector.

Mr Yambor did not relent to speak of some changes facing the department, AEAs quarters in a deplorable state, poor road network to farms, farming communities and to the market centers etc.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kintampo North, Mr. Isaac Baffoe Ameyaw was happy to see farmers exhibit their food crops of different varieties and types, he said.

He added that, “the theme was chosen nationwide to put emphasis on why the concept of value addition in agriculture presents a very good opportunity for additional revenue generation, job creation, foreign exchange earnings and effective postharvest management”.

The MCE stated, there was the need for profitability of farmers to empower the weaker sections of the society, to provide safe, quality, and branded foods to the customers, to reduce post-harvest losses, reduce import and increase value-added export and for all these encourage growth, reduce the risk of marketing, promote crops variation and increase the financial stability of farmers.

Mr. Baffoe in conclusion asked all as a matter of urgency, the need to prevent and control bush fires because of the harmattan season and entreated everybody to guide against bushfires “ let us all try to be each other keeper and save the municipality from spending sums of monies on the operations of anti-bush fire squads each year” he ended.

He thanked all stakeholders most especially, sponsors, Nananom, and organizers of the programme.
