This is the first junior high school designed for only young girls in the Northern Region.

In collaboration with the People’s Postcode Lotteries in the United Kingdom, ActionAid constructed the three-unit classroom block, which also has a library, a store room and mechanised borehole on the compound.

Speaking to Class News at the inauguration ceremony, the Programmes Manager of ActionAid, Esther Boateng explained that the project is aimed at getting teenage mothers into school, and other girls who are interested in furthering their education from the junior high school level.

According to her, there are other leadership and life-changing topics that the students will learn about in the school, aside from the Ghana Education Service’s mandatory curriculum.

Ms Boateng urged the school authorities to maintain the facility and further urged the students who are already enrolled into the school, to take full advantage of the opportunity to study and pass their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

For her part, the Sagnarigu Municipal Director for the Ghana Education Service, Samata Mahama said the project marked a significant milestone in ensuring gender parity in the municipality.

She mentioned that educating the girl-child is necessary in any development drive that is to be undertaken by any country, adding that the benefits cut across all spheres of human endeavour.

The Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive, Iddrisu Mariam challenged the teachers of the school to put in their best to achieve the desired goal for the establishment of the facility.

The paramount chief of Sagnarigu, Sagnari Na Yakubu Abdulai donated a cheque for GHS20, 000 for the acquisition of more teaching and learning materials for the students.
