Farmers in Kwahu East urged to venture into tiger nuts production

Mr Isaac Agyapong, the Kwahu East District Chief Executive (DCE), has urged farmers in the area to venture into tiger nuts production to enable the District to benefit from the 'One District, One Factory' programme.

A feasibility test on the construction of a tiger nuts factory in the District indicated that the current metric tonnes of nuts produced would not be enough to feed the factory.

The DCE, who disclosed this at the Meet-The-Press at Abetifi, said series of business orientated fora for investors had been held by the Assembly to promote the 1D1F initiative.

He listed some development of the projects undertaken to include health and education infrastructure development, agriculture and sanitation.

The Assembly provided a 30-bed capacity ward for the Kwahu Tafo Clinic and constructed CHPS compound at Nteso and Miaso.

Mr Agyapong re-echoed education as the backbone of every developed country hence the support for infrastructure development in the various schools in rural communities.

Some of the schools mentioned were Obonyan D/A Primary, Nkwatia Presbyterian SHS, St. Peters SHS, Kwahu Tafo SHS, St. Dominic SHS, and the Kwahu Tafo R/C.

The Assembly also provided scholarships to more than 658 students in a bid to promote education.

Mr Agyapong said it raised 3,200 cashew and 50,000 cocoa seedlings that had been distributed to farmers as part of the 'Planting for Export and Rural Development.

He assured the farmers that more of the seedlings would be raised next year to ensure many benefit.
