World malaria day marked
The queen mother of Adansi Dompoase, Nanahemaa Afia Afraifaa Tokudwum has encouraged people to sleep under treated mosquito nets to help eradicate malaria from the district.

Nanahemaa Tokudwum made the call at this year’s ‘World Malaria Day’ which was marked in Dompoase in the Adansi North District on the 25th of April, 2022.

She pleaded with management of AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) to consider recruiting people from Dompoase to enroll them in meaningful employment in order to cut down on youth unemployment. She further asked AGA to assist Nananom in completing the Dompoase palace.

In an address read on behalf of the Adansi North District Chief Executive (DCE) by the District Coordinator, Mr. Paul Acquah, revealed that, the Adansi North District has Malaria in the top ten OPD killer diseases despite the numerous malaria control measures put in place by the District Assembly and the District Health Service.

He however stress that, the Assembly in collaboration with the district health service will not relent in it course to achieving the Zero Malaria target.

The District Director of Health Service, Mr. Isaac Odame said the health sector is doing its best to help eradicate malaria in the district and Ghana as a whole. He mentioned that the district received 29,050 mosquito nets in the first quarter of 2022 to be distributed free of charge to communities in the district but people did not make time to receive them hence resulting in the returning of about 1000 mosquito nets.


The District Director of Health service gave some statistic on malaria in the world. He said statistic has shown that, 241 million cases of malaria are recorded every year in the world and 627,000 people die out of 241 million people every year. He said, Ghana is the 10th most endemic country in the world when it comes to malaria and added that latest statistic shows that about 5.7 million cases were recorded in Ghana and about 318 people died in 2021.

He added that malaria cases this year in the district is very high as compared to last year because people are not continuing with the fight against malaria as statistic show about 24,706 suspected cases with 13,686 reading positive for last year.

He therefore encouraged the people of Adansi North to sleep in their treated mosquito nets to help reduce malaria cases in the district.


Spokesperson for Anglo Gold Ashanti, Mr. Edward Adjei in his remark said, the main objective for the AGA foundation to collaborate with the Malaria Control, Adansi North District and Dompoase Divisional Council to celebrate this year’s World Malaria Day is to focus on reducing malaria in the district.

He said AGA Malaria Control together with its stakeholders were able to reduce malaria cases by 74% instead of the 50% they had envisaged for the year 2021.

Mr. Edward Adjei revealed that, with the support of Global fund, AGA malaria control has now extended it services of spraying homes to prevent mosquitoes from evading homes to the Upper East, Upper West and other 11 districts in the Northern part of the country to fulfil their socio economic responsibility to eradicate malaria.
