Let us actively support Green Ghana Project - Lambussie Residents advised

Mr John Adongo, the Lambussie District Coordinating Director has urged residents in the district to plant and nurture trees in support of the government's "Green Ghana Project” to preserve the environment.

This, he said, would help curb the fast degrading land, especially in the district, taking into consideration its closeness to the desert areas.

Mr Adongo gave the advice on Friday during the district launch of it's tree planting to mark the national tree planting exercise dubbed: “Green Ghana Project”.

The Green Ghana Project was announced in the 2021 State of the Nation Address by the President in March to mobilise Ghanaians for an aggressive nationwide tree planting exercise.

At least five million tree seedlings of different species will be planted in a campaign to boost the country’s forest cover.

Mr Adongo said the Lambussie District Assembly was embracing the Project, adding that “the assembly had since 2018 passed a bye-law against the felling of trees along side strict punishments for residents who engage in the activity of felling trees, especially economic trees for charcoal burning among others.

He urged all stakeholders, traditional leaders and citizens, in the district to support the government's project to make the country green by planting trees and nurturing them to survive.

Mr Dontege Belinku Aloysius, the Lambussie District NADMO Officer, said with support from GIZ, an NGO and other organizations, about 3,000 different species of trees are to be planted within the district, targeting public places like Schools, CHIPS compounds as well as disaster-prone areas.

He called for a collective effort from the citizens in the district to help protect these trees for the benefit of the future generations.
