The ten thousand seater Youth Centre is the first of the ten centres expected to be constructed across the country in the next nine months.

The Minister in his address said “We have a deficit in youth infrastructure for youth development as a country. There is no   space for the youth regarding infrastructure and we should address the challenge comprehensively.”

When completed, the facility will have a FIFA standard football pitch, eight-lane athletics track, basketball, handball courts, counseling /ITC and entrepreneurship centres.

He gave the assurance of the setting up of a body that will ensure regular routine maintenance of the $24m facility.

The Minister added “This is more than a Stadium, and it is in line with President’s Akufo-Addo’s vision of securing the future of the youth by providing them with such platforms.”

National Youth Authority (NYA) CEO, Emmanuel Asigiri mentioned that the construction of the Youth Development Centres will ensure that youth development takes centre stage across the country.

“This has come to address challenges confronting the youth,” said the NYA boss.

The facility was originally estimated at $18m but has been increased to $24m due to the increment in its sitting capacity upon request by the traditional rulers in the region.

Indications are that Northern Region will have its share of the sod-cutting   next Tuesday, also to be conducted by the Youth and Sports Ministry.
