Ayawaso North Assembly supports PWDs with cash, items

As part of the Government efforts to empower Persons with Disabilities and also ensure effective utilization of the common fund for PWDs, The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development of the Assembly address issues of Socio-economic wellbeing of members of the communities within the municipality by undertaking programs and activities to integrate vulnerable persons and groups into mainstream development.

The disbursement of the District Assembly Common Fund allocated to Persons with Disabilities started with a sensitization session where participants were educated by the Head of the Department of Social Welfare And Community Development on the reason why the items are purchased for them.

She explained that , government wishes to empower all Persons with Disabilities in the Municipality irrespective of any condition they may find themselves in order to stand for themselves and earn a living that will help them , their families and the society as a whole .

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Aminu Mohammed Zakari on his part, told the beneficiaries to make good use of the support items given to them and work hard so that they will be successful in their respective businesses.

A total of Twenty Three (23) PWD’s were supported with various income generation items such as sewing machines, deep freezers, standing freezer and popcorn machine etc. Another group of five (5) PWD’s were also supported with various cash amounts as startup capital to purchase tools for their businesses.

The gender breakdown is; Fifteen Males and Thirteen Females.
