He made the call at the 35th National farmers Day celebration in Sowutum, on the theme, ‘Enhancing small scale Agriculture towards Agribusiness development’.

Mr Lamptey appealed to NGOs, and other investors to invest more in Agriculture to boost the sector and attract the youth who were waiting to be employed in offices.

He said farming is a well-paid venture that could minimize the rate of unemployment among the youth and urged the youth to make effort to farm for both domestic and commercial purposes.

MCE urged the media to highlight the positive sides of agriculture in their reports to draw the attention of the youth to the sector.

He lauded the Planting for Food and Jobs programme, and said subsidizing farm inputs such as fertilizer contributed to a good harvest this year.

Speaking with Ghanadistricts.com, the MCE said the municipality was implementing the government’s Planting for Food and Jobs programme and had received 13 agriculture extension officers and trainees from the Nation Builders Corps (NABCo) who were carrying out intensive agriculture extension services focusing on peri-urban farming.

He said the problem farmers in Ga Central Municipality faced was the lack of arable lands for farming, which as a result was holding people back from engaging in large-scale farming in the area.

Dr Lamptey expressed his appreciation to farmers and fishermen in the municipality for their enormous contributions for the growth of the area and the country at large.
