Kumawu records GH¢253,112.56 IGF in the first quarter

The Sekyere Kumawu District Assembly in the Ashanti Region, realized a total of GH¢ 253,112.56 in Internally Generated Funds (IGF) for the first quarter of the year 2019, exceeding the target of GH¢ 187,142.00, set for the period.

Mr. Samuel Addai Agyekum, the District Chief Executive (DCE), disclosing this to the Ghana News Agency at Kumawu, said the District came third in the Ashanti Region league table for IGF regional rankings.

This was made possible due to the revenue gained from the agricultural and agribusiness sector, which contributes in excess of 90 percent of our District's Internally Generated Funds, he added.

Mr. Agyekum said in 2017, the District accrued GHÂ¢ 513,018.70 representing 91 percent, with IGF target for 2017 and 2018, put at GHC¢ 562,500.00 and GH¢ 615,155.00, respectively.

Touching on IGF disbursement, the DCE said a total of GHC¢90,059.00 was utilized in 2018 for capital projects in the District, key among them were; the construction of the special ward at the Kumawu Polyclinic.

The construction of a water facility at Asekyerewa, a farming community in the District, and the renovation of a three-bedroom semi-detached staff bungalow for the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) District Officer, were the others.

Mr. Agyekum said this year; part of the IGF has been spent on the reshaping of the Oyoko-Gyediem road and the evacuation of refuse heaps in 13 communities in the District.

â€œA new Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound for the Dadease community, has also been completed at a total cost of GHÂ¢ 134,000.00, he added.

He mentioned other programmes embarked on during this year's first quarter, using the IGF as; the free health screening for over 1,000 residents in the Bodomase community and environs.

The construction of a Kindergarten (KG) Block at the Bomeng community at a cost of GHc¢ 120,000.00 and the repair of the District's Tractor at a cost of GHc¢ 7,000.00, were the other things, the IGF funded.

Mr. Agyekum commended all the workers in the area especially traders, farmers, financial institution staff, drivers, and vehicle owners, among others, for their contribution to the realization of the achievements gained in the revenue mobilization drive of the Assembly.

He pledged continuity in the effective and efficient utilization of the IGF by his administration in the pursuit of development programmes and projects in the district.

We are doing this as a justification to attract more funds from the central government and development partners, such as the District Assembly's Common Fund (DACF), District Development Fund/Facility

(DDF) and more, he added.
