Wassa East pursues model district status

District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wassa-East, Mr Wilson Arthur, says a number of developmental projects and initiatives are underway as part of his avowed aim to make Wassa-East a model District in Ghana.

According to him, what has immediately engaged attention of the Assembly is a Referendum Operation Yes Committee which will soon embark on a sensitization on the December 17 election.

Mr Arthur told the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Daboase in the Western Region that creatives were being produced for an integrated campaign using FM Radio, Information centres, Churches and community volunteers to engage prospective voters one on one as they moved from house to house.

He said the District's mass pollination project planning was ongoing and would be launched on this year's Farmers' Day, which would make Wassa-East the only District in Ghana to embark on pollination ahead of the national programme.

The DCE said to augment the feat, the District would have a free mobile cocoa spraying machines repair project.

Mr Arthur hinted that this year's Farmers' Day celebration would be made in grand style as it would involve Aseda Skills Fair, free Medical Screening, Inter Area Council Soccer Tournament and Homecoming in the Ateiku area.

He said Gratis Foundation was helping the District to set up 6 units of oil processors to start the Wassa-East palm oil factory at Ateiku before the end of December.

According to him, a new rubber processing factory which would take 6 months to establish, was being constructed at Dompin under the 1D1F to employ 60 people directly and more, indirectly.

Mr Arthur said as part of measures to unearth the talents of the youth through life skill training, the construction of the Akutuase and Daboase OIC skill centres would soon.

The DCE said 470 dual desks had been shared among schools in distress while the Ghana Education Service had an approved furniture supplies for local 30 schools.

Mr Arthur hinted that the Atobiase hospital OPD construction as well as the Hemang Police station projects would start in November this year , while the Senchem market construction was on-going.

The DCE said,"We are grateful for the opportunity to impact our people," and would therefore move all out to spearhead the growth and development of the District
