Kaneshie Polyclinic receives medical supplies

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) with support from the City of Freiburg in Germany has donated medical consumables and equipment to the Kaneshie Polyclinic to support healthcare delivery amidst the fight against the deadly coronavirus.

Among the items were 55 stethoscopes, 15 finger pulse oximeters, 3 collapsible wheelchairs, 50 nasopharyngeal airways, 6 infrared thermometers, centrifuge, 20 bag-valve-mask ventilation, 40 oxygen tube and reservoir bag, 6 stretchers, 1 trinocular transmitted-light microscope and accessory as well as 50 blood pressure monitors and 495 FFP2 masks.

Others include 8000 disposable overshoes, 6 instrument sterilisation trays, 150 oropharyngeal airways, 75 disposable surgical gowns as well as 445 plastic aprons, 6700 latex examination gloves and 300 nitrile examination gloves, 30 disposable laryngeal and 5000 surgical masks, 100 protective goggles and 100 face shields, 2 binocular transmitted-light microscopes, 4000 disposable aprons, 130 surgical trousers and 400 plastic Einmal Guedel Tubus.

Presenting the medical supplies to the Kaneshie Polyclinic, Chief Executive of the AMA, Mohammed Adjei Sowah said addressing the healthcare needs of people in the City was paramount hence the continuous effort to improve the quality of healthcare delivery.

He said the presentation of the supplies was made possible due to the healthy partnership between the City of Freiburg and Accra established in 2019, adding that key medical facilities in Accra including the Mamprobi Hospital and Usher Polyclinic had benefited from initial donations.

" We have a sister city relationship with the City of Freiburg in Germany and they have been supporting us to ensure that hospitals in the city always have medical supplies... Key medical facilities such as the Kaneshie and Ussher Polyclinics as well as Mamprobi hospital have benefited from the supplies," he said.

He pointed out that with the emergence of the Delta variant of COVID -19 it had been necessary to provide more Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as nose masks and sanitisers to frontline workers to help fight the virus.

The Director of Metro Health, Dr Therson Cofie who received the items on behalf of the Kaneshie Polyclinic expressed her profound gratitude towards the gesture and assured that the supplies would be used judiciously to improve healthcare delivery.

"On behalf of the Kaneshie Polyclinic, I want to express our profound gratitude for the support that we have received so far from you. As indicated, this is not the first time. Last year we received two donations from the Assembly to support our work in ensuring that COVID-19 is contained. We are most grateful and we assure you that these logistics and medical equipment will be maintained and used judiciously," she said.

The AMA boss also used the opportunity to inspect an ongoing two-storey expansion project to serve as a maternity block for the Kaneshie Polyclinic.

The project consists of a theatre, consulting and changing rooms, a dental unit, an ultrasound scanning room, washrooms among other facilities.
