GSCSP LAUNCH: Lower Manya grateful to benefit from project
The Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya Krobo, Simon Kweku Tetteh has expressed his gratitude to the Local Government Ministry and the World Bank over the inclusion of his Municipal Assembly in the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program (GSCSP) which was launched by the sector Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama in Koforidua last Tuesday.

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly managed to secure a place in the 25 districts and Municipal Assemblies selected from the 260 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies countrywide to benefit from a one hundred million dollars World Bank credit facility.

The facility which is designed to help strengthen local systems and focus on Municipal and District Assemblies by providing them incentives to improve their performance as city managers.

According to Hajia Alima Mahama, the 25 Municipal and District Assemblies were selected for the facility based on a performance assessment of the various assemblies and will be monitored and assessed by the government of Ghana performance assessment tool.

"The program is targeted at institutional and infrastructural development in the country's emerging or secondary cities, it is aimed at addressing some of the important developmental challenges whiles at the same time assisting in implementing government decentralization and urban development policies" she stated.

The MCE who was overwhelmed upon hearing his Municipal Assembly qualified for the program in an interview with ghanadistrict.com thanked the Ministry and the World Bank for the opportunity and promised to work diligently in accordance with the performance assessment tool guidelines. He congratulated his constituents for their numerous support to the assembly.

Other beneficiary assemblies include New Juaben South, Birim Central and Abuakwa South in the Eastern region; Suame, Asokwa, Old Tafo and Obuase from the Ashanti Region.

Berekum East, Sunyani, Techiman, Dormaa Central, Agona West, Awutu-Senya East, Mfantiman made the list from the Ahafo and the Central Regions respectively.

The MCE who expressed his gratitude to his constituents for their astounding support was confident that the facility would push the government's transformation agenda and the development of the area into a secondary city, propel more developmental projects.

According to him "this is an opportunity for the entire residents of the municipality to come together to help develop the Municipality since Development is a consensus responsibility after tasking them to embrace the projects".
