MCE supports PWDs with cash, items
The Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development disbursed cash to 20 People Living with Disability (PWDs as part of the three per cent common Fund (DACF) The Assembly disbursed Deep Freezers and Popcorn machines among others to beneficiaries late last year.

The exercise was the second batch with an amount of GHc30, 200 to 20 Persons Living With Disability which comprises of Thirteen (13) females and Seven (7) males beneficiaries with cash ranging from GHc1,500 to GHc2,000 according to the needs and demand of the beneficiaries.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hajia Salma Mohammed Sani- Adams in her open remarks stated that the disbursement formed part of government’s policy backed by law which set aside three per cent of the DACF to be used for economic empowerment of PWDs. She said the cash donation was presented based on request by the beneficiaries in which they were carefully selected through the help of Assembly members in various electoral areas and the Social Welfare and Community Development Department.

“The objective of the funds is to empower PWDs in the area of education, health and socio-economic activities to ensure that no one is left behind in the development of the community and bring about inclusiveness at all levels”.

She further said that the Assembly was trying to put in place measures to further assist the PWDs to reap the best from donation received, while encouraging those who were interested in skills training to avail themselves.

She charged the beneficiaries to make good use of the money to improve their living conditions since a team would monitor to ensure they used the money for its intended purpose.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Aminu Mohammed Zakari on his part, told the beneficiaries to make good use of the support items given to them and work hard so that they will be successful in their respective businesses.

A total of Twenty Three (23) PWD’s were supported with various income generation items such as sewing machines, deep freezers, standing freezer and popcorn machine etc. Another group of five (5) PWD’s were also supported with various cash amounts as startup capital to purchase tools for their businesses.

The gender breakdown is; Fifteen Males and Thirteen Females.
