Northern Reg. Minister launches Rural Electrification Project
The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed, has launched its Rural Electrification Project (REP) to help extend electricity to every community in the Metropolis.

The programme was help at the forecourt of the Presidential lodge in Tamale.

In his welcome address, he commended the Chiefs for their support in bringing peace into the region, adding that it is through peace that ensures development. That is why his Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufu-Addo, through the Ministry of Energy, have to add Northern region into the operation.

According to the Minister, the extension of electricity to the rural areas in the region is also another form of peace dividends, which is also going to spark and empower our people into the global technological limelight.


Moreover, according to the Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon.willaim Owureku -Adu, access to reliable and affordable energy is their sole aim, which will impact the socioeconomic lives of our people, thereby helping to reduce poverty in the rural areas.

It will also enhance overall economic activities and creating jobs to reduce rural urban migration of our youth.


Further Willaim Owureku - Adu, mentioned that, there were two packages of electrification in the Northern region and the first package, has the following Districts as its beneficiaries, which include, Karaga, Gushegu, Saboba, Tatale -Sanguli, Nanumba North and South, Zabzugu, Yendi, Tolon, Sagnarigu, Tamale Metro,Savelugu, Kumbungu and about 147 communities under the said Districts are set to be Connected into the national grid within a short period.

Finally, another good aspect of the project is that, thus according to the Deputy Minister For Energy, he said, all electrification materials are going to be acquired from our locally manufacturing companies, rather than importing them at higher cost from outside the country, to aid in the speed of their operations as it has been fully funded under the auspices of the Government Of Ghana.

And also forms part of its self-help operations.
