Notable among these are John Mensah (Former Captain of the Black Stars), Jonathan Mensah, Shaibu Yakubu, Mubarak Wakaso, Daniel Opare, Kofi Amoako, and Abdul Issah Rahman.

The famous Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium built by the Ashanti Goldfields Corporation in the early 90s continues to serve as the major Football grounds for Obuasi which provides the platform for young players to hone their talent. The Stadium is situated in the Obuasi Municipality.

In view of this, the Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, Honorable Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom led the charge for a befitting football pitch for residents in the Obuasi East District. This, however, came to fruition when on Easter Monday, 5th April 2021 he led the Commissioning of a new football park in Boete, a suburb of Obuasi East District.

Explaining the motive behind the construction of the park which cost in excess of GH¢350, 000 GH¢250,000 from Common Fund and GH 100,000 from his own pocket, Dr. Boakye said he was motivated by the number of football talents that have come out from Obuasi.

He said it is about time the Constituency had its own befitting park where young footballers can practice their skills. He said, “I want Obuasi East to produce the likes of Abedi Pele and Tony Yeboah; this is possible with this park".

Dr. Boakye further stated that a lot of investment has gone into the construction of the Park hence he appealed to Chiefs and People of Boete to protect and maintain the facility to stand the test of time.

The District Chief Executive for Obuasi East District, Faustina Amissah also talked about the benefits of the facility to the District. She said the District since its creation in 2018 does not have a befitting place to hold its public gatherings and national events. She said, “the Park has come at the right time. We have clamored for such a large space to hold our events. We could not have asked for more ".

She added her voice to the growing concerns on the need to maintain the facility. She mentioned the kind of investment that has gone to the facility calling all and sundry to help maintain the facility for the benefit of all.

BACKGROUND

The Boete Park situated in the heart of the Constituency was a bare land with no grass which served as the only football pitch for the community and its neighboring towns. The MP since he took office in 2017 has made it his priority to reconstruct the park. The grass work was done by Frank Boahen of Green Grass Technology. It is well fenced with a Technical area provided for Coaches and Substitute players.
