Assembly Members in the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam District have been entreated to get involved and show more commitment towards the crusade to give education a new meaning in the district.

District Chief Executive, Peter Light Koomson who made the call at a meeting with the assembly members called on the assembly members to particularly make monitoring of teacher-attendance, performance and discipline part of their duties to enhance results in schools. “You are at the grassroots and so we will rely on you for reports and complaints in this respect to make us well-informed as to what swift actions must be taken”, he added.

The DCE who expressed grave concern about the high rate of teacher-absenteeism in the district was also concerned about the devastating effect on standard of education. As such while there is national effort to nib the canker, the district must also begin to fight to reverse the situation. According to him, a robust monitoring system is required at this time.

Mr. Koomson was however grateful that some pragmatic measures put in place  by the Education Directorate in the immediate past has brought about some modest performance  in the standard of education in the district but the situation is nothing to be proud of.

Meanwhile, over 700 mono and dual desks have been distributed to some selected schools while more are being expected to be given out to schools most in need of desks.
