Basic School Teachers in the Agona East District have been made to sign performance agreement with the District Chief Executive (DCE), to help promote education.

Under the agreement, the teachers will among other things, help improve Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) results in the district.

This has become necessary in view of the zero percent record in the BECE results scored by some of the schools.

Mr Martin Luther Obeng, District Chief Executive made this known when he addressed Basic School heads and teachers at Agona Nsaba

He regretted that Agona East recoded only 40 percent results in the BECE in 2013, describing it as very appalling,’ and said this must be reversed this year.

The DCE said the District placed 128 out of 161 districts in the 2013 BECE national performance table.

Mr Obeng said the agreement will be renewed annually, adding that teachers whose schools score zero percent in the coming years, will be transferred.

He said the District Assembly has formed a task force, comprising the DCE, District Coordinating Director, District Director of Education, Circuit Supervisors and other government officials to monitor teachers.

He charged parents and guardians who have neglected their parental duties to reverse the decision.

The DCE appealed to the Chiefs and elders in Agona East to institute bye-laws to ban school children from going out after 20.00 hours.

Mrs Mary Asare Addo, Agona East District Director of Education, warned that teachers who will absent themselves from school for nine days without any tangible reasons would be summarily dismissed from the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Mrs Addo appealed to teachers in the district to work within the rules and regulations of GES to enhance effective teaching and learning.
