The Sekyere East District Assembly has elected 40-year-old educationist Mr. Kofi Agyenim Boateng as its presiding member.

Mr. Agyenim Boateng beat his closet contender, Mr. Gabriel Gyimah, the out-going PM, who failed to retain the seat.

The new PM won the election by 27 votes out of 38 total votes cast, against Mr. Gyimah’s 11.

The election had to travel into a run-off, because none of the three contestants secured the mandated two-thirds of the total votes cast.

The election, which was supervised by the District Electoral Officer, Mr. Raymond Nartey, was held in a peaceful atmosphere and without any acrimony among the members.

Mr. Kofi Agyenim Boateng has since been officially sworn into office as the new Presiding Member by the District Magistrate, His Worship Jacob Amponsah.

In his acceptance speech, the new PM called for efficiency and dedication from his colleagues and other heads of department in their efforts at development.

He called on the assembly members to bury their individual differences and party ideologies, and forge ahead in unity, to ensure their respective electoral areas have their fair share of the nation’s resources for the development of the district.

He thanked all the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him, and promised to push the district to higher heights, and also serve as a liaison officer for the development in the district.
