DORMAA EAST : Dormaa East NYEP faces challenges

The National Youth Employment Manager in the Dormaa East District, Mr Joshua Awuah Antwi has indicated  that inspite of the move by government  to reduce unemployment rate in the country, a high percentage of the youth in the district were unemployed.

The National Youth Employment Manager in the Dormaa East District, Mr Joshua Awuah Antwi has indicated  that inspite of the move by government  to reduce unemployment rate in the country, a high percentage of the youth in the district were unemployed.

Speaking to ghanadistricts.com, he spelt out a number of challenges inhibiting the smooth running of the scheme in the area.

Among these are logistics, accommodation as well as vehicles and motor bikes needed for monitoring of beneficiaries of the programme.

According to the NYEP District Manager, sixty-six people have enrolled in the sanitation module and are working effectively in various communities in the district.

Additionally, three people are working the districts various libraries.


The health assistants module has engaged 25 youth, whilst the teaching assistants
number 35.

According to Mr Awuah Antwi, the district needs more teachers to fill in the vacant positions.

He recommended that accomodation should be provided for the teaching assistants and they should be give  the opportunity to pursue long distance courses to elevate them to pupil teachers.

Additionally, he said the government should provide them with credit facilities and organise workshops to improve their teaching skills.
