According to him, the Green Ghana Initiative seeks to create a collective action towards restoration of degraded landscapes and also to reafforest the country’s depleted forest reserves.

“The whole idea is to Green Ghana and reafforest the place, this may not be forest grounds but as we put new trees around here and increase the green cover, we would also be mitigating the changes that we are finding in our climate”, the MCE noted.

Mr Adumuah stated this when he planted the first tree to mark the beginning of the 2022 tree planting exercise.

In the Adenta Municipality alone, about 15, 000 trees are expected to be planted in various homes, churches, institutions, schools among others.

He said, the exercise has been decentralized and all 12 electoral areas in the municipality have taken delivery of 1,000 seedlings each.

In a bid to ensure proper monitoring and nurturing of the trees, the MCE further revealed that a new App has been launched by the Assembly to ensure this purpose.

“The Assembly has an App now and the App after we have planted we will be able to tell us where we have planted and the coordinates. So from time to time we will be able to have the means to visit a particular plant to know whether it survived or not”, the MCE added.

Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo on June 10, 2022, launched the 2022 Edition of Green Ghana Day, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The theme for this year’s exercise is “Mobilizing for a Greener Future.” It is expected about 20 million trees will be planted this year.
