The MCE said this when he planted the first tree to mark the commencement of the 2022 nationwide tree planting exercise.

The tree planting exercise which is under the Green Ghana project is aimed at restoring the country’s depleting forest reserves.

This year alone, about twenty thousand (20,000) trees are expected to be planted in the Municipality to ensure the full realization of the project.
Speaking to the media, the MCE noted that although the government initiated the Green Ghana project, citizens should endeavor to do more to ensure its success.

He appealed to them to nurture the seedlings, adding that “If you plant trees, you have planted life.”

He thus advised all to participate fully to help see to the survival of the trees they have planted.

“The Assembly under my leadership will continue to partner other relevant institutions and stakeholders to protect and manage the forest and wildlife resources of the Municipality”, he said.

He reminded the participants that climate change was hitting on all persons because of the cutting down of trees; hence the increasing temperature of the environment.

Meanwhile, Mr Wilkinson also used the opportunity to present 200 dual desks to the education director of the Municipality, and asked them to take very good care of it.

He expressed appreciation to all stakeholders especially the Traditional authorities, Religious Authorities, the Ghana Education Service and Non -Governmental Organizations whose key role contributed to the success of the day’s exercise.
