Minister donates study desks to schools

The Western North Regional Minister, Mr. Richard Ebbah Obeng as part of his 1 School Child 1 Study Desk initiatives has donated 100 study desks and teacher’s tables to the Suaman District Assembly for onward distribution to schools.

The Minister said the desk deficit leveled against the Suaman district is over 2,000 and that his outfit is prepared to help address the challenge.

He further stated that having two (2) students share a mono desk and in some cases four (4) sharing dual desks will only increase distraction and make students lose concentration on what is being taught in the classroom.

This, he said, is the reason the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and all Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) have come together to assist the central government, knowing that the challenge in the education sector will require the collective efforts of both citizens and Government.

Mr. Ebbah Obeng then called on residents of the district who are well-to-do to join hands with the Regional Coordinating Council and support the initiative.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) Christian Baah also emphasized on the depth of impact the initiative is going to have on education and students' performance in the district and extensively in the region.

Mr. Isaac Adjei the District Education Director stressed that, the desk deficit has over the years accounted for inefficiency in teaching and learning and under performance of learners. He therefore praised the Regional Minister and his team for professing a solution to such a long standing challenge in the educational sector.

The Krontihene of the Suaman Traditional Council, Nana Armah Kofi III also expressed his profound gratitude to the Minister and entreated the teachers to take keen interest in helping protect the desks so they could last longer.

Attendance to the program was the Regional Coordinating Director Mr. Francis Amoako Kwarteng, District Police Commander, Supt. Theophilus Asirifi.
