BUILSA S: Assembly impounds truck carrying banned rosewood
A Truck loaded with banned rosewood has been impounded by the Builsa North District Assembly in the Upper East Region.

Five people were also arrested in connection with the operation which was carried out by a combined team of security personnel and officials of the assembly.

Disclosing this in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Daniel Kwame Gariba, noted that, the confiscated truck was fully loaded with rosewood which he said were illegally fell in the Doninga Forest in the district.

According to him, the truck was confiscated because the five suspects did not have the necessary documentations to back their lumbering operations in the area.


He said the assembly is very much determined to clamp down perpetrators and bring them to book. He disclosed that the suspects will soon be arraigned before court when investigations are duly complete.

Rosewood is a finely grained timber used mainly for the production of expensive furniture works in most countries especially in Asia. It is also used to making designing musical instruments which makes it desirable across the world.
