A rich display of culture at Kwabre ‘Anwene Festival’
The rich and colourful display of culture, heritage and art at the just ended durbar of the ‘Kwabre Anwene Festival’ was put on show for all to see last weekend.

The maiden ‘Anwene Festival’ was dubbed “Exploiting and Managing Our Crafts Heritage for Kwabre Development.” The festivals also encompassed the potency of some educational values by revisiting important Kwabre historical events and facts.

Speaking at the event, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Kwabre East Assembly, Nana Osei Asibey Bonsu stated that, the strategic objective of the festival was to enahnce tourism in the area and also promote new industrialisation under the flagship “one district, one factory” initiative.


He said: “the festival is to sustain the pride of the community and bring cohesion among the people of Kwabre, both home and in the Diaspora.

He was hopeful that the festival will help generate income for the craftsmen, the entire community and the assembly, which will go a long way to create jobs for the youth of Kwabre.

“The festival will help create platforms to bring kwabre citizens together every year”, the soft spoken MCE said.


The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Area, Mr Francisca Oteng Mensah on her part, admonished all citizens in the constituency to grab the advantage of the many social and economic interventions being implemented by the government to help better their living conditions.

She also revealed the colourful and beautiful Kente cloth which was purposely woven and named after her as “Maame Serwaa Obatanpa”.

The Ashanti Regional minister, Simon Osei Mensah took the opportunity to educate the citizenry on the flagship policies of the government.



He said that the Kwabre Anwene Festival has come to to stay and he hoped that the subsequent ones would even be more successful.

Among the dignitaries present were Nana Saasi Ayeboafo(mamponteng Hene) and Nananom, Zongo chiefs, Deputy tourism minister, committee members, Assembly members, Heads of department media and the general public.
