Farmer appeals to government for support

Mr. Kofi Amoah, a 41 year old farmer at Hiamankyene in the Tain District has appealed to government for electricity extension to his farm and to also facilitate granting loans to farmers for expansion of their farms since interest on Bank loans are high and have shorter repayment period.

Mr. Kofi Amoah of El-shalom farms made this appealed when the District Chief Executive, Lawyer Charity Akua Foriwaa Dwommoh together with the District Director of Agriculture, Mr. S. Y Apiiga and other Officials from the District Assembly visited him at his farm to interact with him.

He cultivates 175 acres of cashew farm at Hiamankyen, 165 acres of cashew farm at Fabewoso, 4 acres of thick trees and 120 acres of land yet to be cultivated.

With seven years’ experience in poultry production, Mr. Kofi Amoah who started his poultry farm with only 20 cockles is currently having 16, 000 birds which produces 380 crates of eggs, 31 cattle and 60 pigs. My sheds can take over 30,000birds, he said.

Currently, Mr. Kofi Amoah uses five gallons of fuel a day for his chanfan machine to grind maize to feed his birds. He also use gas to warm his day old chicks and have 18 permanent workers.

The DCE Madam Charity Akua Foriwaa Dwommoh who assure him of getting electricity and reshaping of roads leading to his farm said government would continue to partner with the private sector and development partners to implement various social, agricultural and economic interventions to help address poverty.
